Cardinal tetra are a schooling fish often staying clost to the foliage and cover of the aquarium, they like a well planted or quiet aquarium which is a minimum size of 60 litres for a small group or 90+ litres for a larger group. Only purchase singles if you are topping up an existing group. If bought alone they may develop behaviours which will cause a problem in your aquarium.
They may look simmilar to neon tetra but their behaviours are quite differnt and they have a more distanctly longer red stripe down their side. Males and females look similar aside from the females are more rounded in the belly area when mature.
They have an approximate lifespan of 4 years and with the proper set up will last even longer.
They are a tropical fish which require a heater set to 25-27*C.
